Amid concerns about President Joe Biden’s age and competency, Vice President Kamala Harris stated her readiness to lead if necessary, emphasizing her capacity to serve.
Harris insisted, “I am ready to serve, there’s no question about that.”
The release of special counsel Robert Hur’s report, which described Biden as an “elderly man with a poor memory,” has renewed worries about his age and potential second-term candidacy.
An ABC News/Ipsos poll found that 86% of Americans believe Biden is too old to run for reelection, with nearly 6 in 10 Americans considering both Biden and his likely competitor, Donald Trump, too old to serve as president.
Harris, 59, has previously expressed readiness to assume the presidency if needed and has dismissed concerns about Biden’s mental fitness, attributing criticisms to attempts to distract from real issues.
She previously said, “Sadly, there is a push from so many people in that lane to try to divide our country and distract from the real issues.”
Following the report, GOP strategist Scott Jennings suggested that Harris has become a significant campaign issue for the 2024 election.
Jennings said, “I would say — and I don’t know how many people on this panel believe it — there aren’t too many Americans who are going to look at this and say, This guy is up to serving for five more years as president of the United States.”
“I think Vice President Harris became, squarely, an issue in this election today. She already was getting there, and now, it’s even more important,” he continued.
