Mexican authorities have arrested six individuals linked to a drug gang responsible for the murder of at least eight people in Cancun.
The suspects allegedly dismembered and buried the victims, and were found in possession of drugs, firearms, and stolen vehicles.
In addition, 23 people were arrested for running a fake tour agency as a front for drug operations.
The state of Quintana Roo has seen ongoing violence related to the illegal drug trade, including the sale of counterfeit opioids to tourists.
Incidents of violence involving foreign tourists have also occurred, prompting travel alerts from the U.S. State Department.
Despite these concerns, the tourism industry in the region continues to thrive, with significant spending by foreign visitors.
