In a recent Financial Times poll, Republican front-runner Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden by 11 points in terms of who would handle the economy better, with 42% favoring Trump and 31% favoring Biden.

Despite 27% expressing positive views on the U.S. economic conditions, only 36% approve of Biden’s economic management, while 60% disapprove.

In addition, 49% of respondents feel worse off since Biden took office, and 46% believe his policies have negatively impacted the economy.

Erik Gordon, a professor at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, said, “Biden’s messaging that the economy is doing well under him hasn’t convinced many people.”

This contrasts with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s assertion that rising wages offset high prices.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen recently said, “We don’t have to get the prices down. Wages are going up.”

“Despite his repeated statements and despite government numbers that support him, he hasn’t moved the disapproval needle,” added Gordon.

The poll, conducted online, surveyed 1,006 registered voters between Feb. 2-5 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 points.
