The Biden administration admitted using terms such as “MAGA,” “Trump,” and “Kamala” for banks to surveil Americans’ financial transactions following the January 6 protests.

The Treasury Department’s letter to Sen. Tim Scott disclosed that “Exchange events” under the prior administration included politically charged terms.

Scott criticized the surveillance as a violation of privacy and targeting of citizens.

Sen. Scott said the letter, “represents a flagrant violation of Americans’ privacy and the improper targeting of U.S. citizens for exercising their constitutional rights without due process.”

Bank of America reportedly provided the FBI with a list of customers in the Washington, DC area, regardless of their involvement in the events.

The House Judiciary Committee revealed that the Treasury Department asked banks to monitor transactions for signs of extremism, like small arms purchases.
