Michigan State Rep. Josh Schriver, a Republican, faced consequences after sharing a racist post on social media.
House Speaker Joe Tate, a Democrat, removed Schriver from a committee and placed his staff under oversight, citing a history of promoting debunked theories and dangerous rhetoric.
Joe Tate said, “Representative Schriver has a history of promoting debunked theories and dangerous rhetoric that jeopardizes the safety of Michigan residents and contributes to a hostile and uncomfortable environment for others.”
Schriver stated, “I’m opposed to racists, race baiters and victim politics.”
“What I find strange is the agenda to demoralize and reduce the white portion of our population,” he continued.
The post in question featured a racist ideology known as “The great replacement,” suggesting a plot to diminish the influence of white people.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer condemned the post, calling it “abhorrent rhetoric,” while Schriver defended it as opposition to “race baiters” and victim politics.
Gov. Whitmer said, “We will never let those who stoke racial fears divide us.”
Despite the backlash, Schriver remains able to vote on the House floor.
