Former President Donald Trump criticized President Joe Biden’s mental competence at a rally in South Carolina, referencing Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on the Biden classified documents probe.
Trump argued that if Biden is deemed mentally incompetent to be prosecuted, he is unfit to serve as president.
Trump said, “The special counsel’s report tries to let Biden off by claiming that he is too mentally incompetent to convict at a trial.”
“‘I’m not going to charge him with a crime, but it’s okay for him to become Commander in Chief’ – think of that one,” he contnued.
Trump then said, “But we know that Joe Biden has always been too mentally incompetent.”
Hur wrote in his report, “We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
“Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt,” the report continued.
He highlighted Hur’s decision not to prosecute Biden despite evidence of retaining and disclosing classified materials, citing Biden’s “significantly limited” memory as a factor.
“Crooked Joe got off scot-free, and I don’t know if you call it scot-free; they said he was a mental basket case,” mocked Trump.
“Biden’s thugs are still trying to put me in jail on fake charges for crimes that they openly admit that Crooked Joe did. He actually did these crimes,” continued the former president.
Trump also expressed frustration over his own charges in a classified documents case, emphasizing a perceived two-tiered system of justice and selective political persecution.
“Now, I’m not looking for anything to happen to this guy. He wouldn’t know the difference,” he explained.
“But this is selective political persecution. Not prosecution – persecution,” added Trump.
