PETA has called for the elimination of animal-themed carousels, arguing that they exploit animals and teach children that sentient beings exist solely for entertainment.

The organization has urged carousel manufacturers, such as Chance Rides, to create designs featuring vehicles or whimsical shapes instead.

“Animal-themed carousel sets reinforce the notion that these sentient beings are simply here for our entertainment, rather than individuals with the same capacity to experience fear, pain, joy, and love as any of us,” the letter read.

In response, Chance Rides has emphasized the wonder and magic of its carousels, highlighting the unique craftsmanship and variety of options available.

As of now, the company has not publicly addressed PETA’s request.

“Children learn through play, and teaching them to have respect and compassion for all living, feeling beings can help create a more just and merciful world,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said.

“PETA urges Chance Rides and all other carousel manufacturers to hit the brakes on old-fashioned animal-themed rides and embrace designs that engage children’s imagination and showcase human talent,” Newkirk added.
