Donald Trump made a controversial statement, blaming Nancy Pelosi for the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
He also faces federal charges related to the incident.
“I heard, and I watched, and the one thing I’ll say is they kept saying about what I said right after the insurrection, which I think was an insurrection caused by Nancy Pelosi,” Trump said.
“I said peacefully and patriotically… Take a look at the statements I made before and after, and you’ll see a whole different dialogue.”
During a rambling press conference, he contradicted himself on whether the event was an insurrection and made baseless claims about election interference.
“I think it was an insurrection caused by Nancy Pelosi,” Trump said. “This was an insurrection, if it was an insurrection, which, there were no guns, there were no anything, except for the fact that they shot Ashli Babbitt. Somebody from, at least four, shot Ashli Babbitt. So unnecessary, so sad, so horrible. But there were no guns. There were no anything.”
This comes as he continues to be embroiled in legal battles and controversies surrounding the events of that day.
