Penn State University’s branch campus in Reading, Taylor Swift’s hometown, will offer a course titled “Taylor Swift, Gender, and Communication.”

The course, focusing on communication arts, women’s studies, and Swift’s cultural impact, will explore her portrayal in the media.

“When you watch social media posts of the concerts or ‘Eras Tour’ movie screenings, you see so many important things happening,” Michele Ramsey said.

“You see legions of women — grandmothers, moms, young women, teens, tweens, younger girls and those who don’t fit into our strict social constructions of gender and sex identity — daring to take up space to enjoy something they love together.”

It will examine the intersection of music, politics, and gendered expectations, with a focus on Swift’s career, media treatment, and challenges faced by female musicians.

The instructor, Michele Ramsey, emphasized the importance of Swift’s influence on diverse audiences.
