A recent study by Forbes Advisor found that Washington State is the most affected by retail crime in the US, with 90% of small business retailers being victims of theft.

The state has 48% more retail theft than expected based on its population share, and it ranks third worst in the total value of stolen goods.

Theft losses range between $500 and $2,500 monthly for most retailers, leading many to raise prices.

The study also revealed that organized retail theft in the US increased from 70.7% in 2022 to 78.1% in 2023, with 88% of retailers reporting a spike in the violence of shoplifters.
