Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, will introduce measures to detect and label AI-generated images on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, aiming to combat potential misinformation ahead of elections.
The company will add watermarks to AI imagery and require users to disclose realistic AI video or audio content.
Meta’s President, Nick Clegg, emphasized vigilance in preventing deceptive content, with violators facing penalties ranging from warnings to removal.
“It appears to be a highly effective and rather precise way of ensuring that what is escalated to our human reviewers really is the kind of edge cases for which you want human judgment,” Clegg said.
The company is also testing language models to identify policy violations and is cautious yet optimistic about governing new generative technologies.
