Rep. Elise Stefanik, a staunch supporter of Trump and potential VP candidate, criticized Mike Pence’s actions on Jan. 6, 2021, indicating she wouldn’t have done the same.

She reiterated claims of election fraud, aligning with Trump’s baseless assertions.

“I don’t think that was the right approach,” Stefanik said.

“I think it’s very important that we continue to stand up for the Constitution and have legal and secure elections, which we did not have in 2020. And tens of millions of Americans agree with me,” she said.

Stefanik, seen as a leading contender for Trump’s VP pick, evaded questions about a deleted statement on the Capitol insurrection, insisting it wasn’t a retraction.

“It’s publicly available,” she said. “I have all my public statements from the current Congress. You can access all my previous public statements.”

“But why was it deleted from your website?” she was asked.

“I only have the press releases from this current Congress,” Stefanik said.

“All of those statements are available—since I was elected—on multiple social media accounts and you can access it there,” she said.

Despite a previous tweet condemning violence, she now refers to those jailed for the insurrection as “hostages” and criticizes investigations into the events.
