New details have emerged about the largest bribery bust in Justice Department history, involving 70 suspects arrested in a six-state sting.

The suspects include NYCHA officials accused of taking bribes and extorting contractors for no-bid jobs, allegedly raking in over $2 million.

The NYCHA, the country’s largest public housing system, receives over $1.5 billion in federal funding annually.

The suspects, mostly NYCHA superintendents or assistant superintendents, demanded cuts of $500 to $2,000 or more per job.

United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said, “That’s classic pay-to-play, and this culture of corruption at NYCHA ends today.”

The charges carry maximum sentences of 10 to 20 years in federal prison, and investigators are urging victimized contractors to come forward.
