Former President Donald Trump is considering changes in the Republican National Committee leadership, possibly signaling the end of Ronna McDaniel’s tenure as chairwoman.
McDaniel has faced criticism for the GOP’s election performance, with some calling for her resignation.
Trump’s dissatisfaction with McDaniel’s handling of the RNC debates and financial setbacks has led to speculation about her future.
“I think she knows that, I think she understands that,” Trump said.
“Ronna is now Head of the RNC, and I’ll be making a decision the day after the South Carolina Primary as to my recommendations for RNC Growth,” Trump later wrote.
While some Republicans support McDaniel, others blame Trump for the party’s losses.
“We’re a turnout machine, and actually, it’s going to look like more Republicans turned out in Virginia than Democrats,” McDaniel said. “We actually turned out more Republicans than Democrats in Kentucky. We’re not the messaging — that comes from the candidate, and that’s up to them.”
“If Trump wants to understand why we lost in 2018, 2020, and 2022, all he has to do is look in the mirror. Ronna isn’t a magician,” RNC member Henry Barbour said.
The situation reflects growing divergence within the party, with Trump’s influence playing a significant role in potential leadership changes.
