A federal district court judge appointed by former President Obama has dismissed a lawsuit brought by 15 male illegal aliens who claimed that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s “Operation Lone Star” violated their constitutional rights.
The operation, launched in 2021, aimed to combat Mexican drug cartels and the smuggling of illegal aliens and drugs across the southern border.
Judge Robert Pitman ruled that the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate how Operation Lone Star violated their constitutional rights, leading to the dismissal of the case.
The Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) supported Abbott in the case, arguing that the illegal aliens’ detention under the operation did not breach the constitution.
IRLI Executive Director Dale Wilcox said, “This case richly deserved to be dismissed.”
“The Biden administration’s abdication of its statutory duty to secure the border has created a rash of property crimes in Texas, which Texas has every right to address by enforcing its state laws,” he continued.
“If the plaintiffs were right in their claims, not only would illegal aliens have free rein to enter and remain in Texas and the U.S., but free rein to commit crimes without consequence,” explained Wilcox.
“We are pleased the court saw the legal baselessness of this suit and dismissed it,” he concluded.
The judge’s decision was welcomed by the institute, which emphasized the importance of addressing border security and enforcing state laws.
