New Hampshire Democrat Rep. Amanda Toll held her newborn daughter while advocating for an amendment to enshrine the “right” to abortion in the state constitution.
She shared her personal experience of having an abortion as a teenager and emphasized how it allowed her to pursue education and become a state representative.
Rep. Toll said, “I stand here today as one of the millions of people who has had an abortion. When I was a teenager, I accessed abortion care that has allowed me to go to college, to graduate school, to receive an M.Ed., to teach, and to be a state representative.”

“It allowed me to have my children when I was ready, both physically and emotionally, including the baby girl I gave birth to just last week,” continued the lawmaker.
“I want my kids to have the right to self-determination in these decisions. I want Granite Staters to know that their reproductive decisions are their own, and I want voters to weigh in on this important issue,” she added.
Toll expressed her commitment to ensuring abortion rights for everyone in the state, including her daughter, stating that she wants reproductive decisions to be individual choices.
The state’s House of Representatives narrowly voted in favor of moving forward with the abortion amendment, but it failed to reach the required three-fifths majority to be put in front of voters.
This comes as part of a broader effort in several states to address abortion rights following changes in the legal landscape after the fall of Roe v. Wade.
