Former President Donald Trump has been called out for making contradictory arguments in his legal defense strategies.
A three-judge panel from the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals highlighted the inconsistency between his impeachment defense and his current criminal case, suggesting that Trump is attempting to have it both ways.
“Their arguments were designed in the moment to evade accountability,” Wendy Weiser said.
The judges emphasized that Trump’s vulnerability to prosecution for actions during his presidency has been confirmed by his own legal team’s statements.
Trump’s response on social media and his attempt to fundraise after the ruling were criticized as well.
“He is not president,” Weiser said. “He is not a king. He is citizen Trump and subject to prosecution just like the rest of us. There is nothing special about him that would avoid that fundamental notion.”
