The U.S. conducted a drone strike in Baghdad, targeting members of the Kataib Hezbollah militia, including a high-ranking commander connected to a previous drone strike that killed three U.S. troops in Jordan.
The strike was in response to the earlier attack.
“The United States will continue to take necessary action to protect our people,” CENTCOM stated. “We will not hesitate to hold responsible all those who threaten our forces’ safety.”
The U.S. has also targeted Iranian-backed militias in Iraq and Syria.
The U.S. has blamed the Islamic Resistance in Iraq for the attack and suspects Kataib Hezbollah’s involvement.
The situation reflects ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran-backed groups in the region.
