Denver is facing significant challenges due to the arrival of over 40,000 illegal migrants in recent months, leading to overcrowded shelters and strained resources.

The city is in the process of evicting about 800 migrant families from these shelters, with the mayor expressing concerns about reaching a breaking point.

“We have filled every single hotel room that we have available in the city and county of Denver,” Johnston said.

The influx has led to increased costs for housing, education, and healthcare, with the city estimating a need for $100 million to cover migrant-related expenses.

“Now we have the terrible decision that if we don’t start exiting folks, we will have 250 folks that will arrive today or the day after who don’t have anywhere to go at night,” Johnston said.

The city’s hospital has accumulated $10 million in unpaid medical bills from migrants, and the public schools have received nearly 3,000 new migrant children, some with little to no prior schooling.

This situation has also contributed to a rise in the homeless population and may impact the city’s annual budget by forcing potential cuts of up to $180 million.
