U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s attempt to meet privately with Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi without Israel’s elected leaders present was blocked by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Blinken’s visit to Israel aimed to discuss hostage negotiations and the Biden administration’s goal of a Palestinian state.

The meeting’s cancellation may have been an attempt to prevent an Israeli attack on Rafah, near the Egyptian border.

Blinken has been accused of micromanaging Israel’s war effort on behalf of President Joe Biden, leading to deteriorating relations between the Biden administration and the Israeli government.
