Nikki Haley has accused the Nevada GOP primary of being “rigged” in favor of Donald Trump.
She decided not to participate in the race and focused on South Carolina instead.
“In terms of Nevada, we have not spent a dime nor an ounce of energy on Nevada. We made the decision early on that we were not going to pay $55,000 to a Trump entity that you know to participate in a process that was rigged for Trump,” Haley campaign manager Betsy Ankeny said.
“Nevada is not and has never been our focus.”
The Nevada Republican Party’s loyalty to Trump has led other candidates to abandon the state.
“We’re not sure what the Trump team is up to out there, but the base seemed pretty spun up about it, but we are focused on South Carolina,” Ankeny said.
There are two GOP primaries in Nevada, and Haley is likely to win the first, but it won’t matter in the long run as Trump is almost certain to win the state’s delegates.
Some reports suggest pro-Trump voters may vote “none of the above” as a protest against Haley.
The competing Republican ballots stem from a conflict between the state Republican Party and a 2021 state law mandating a primary.
Trump is close to securing the Republican presidential nomination, while Haley faces challenges in South Carolina.
