Mississippi’s state auditor, Shad White, has renewed his demand for retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre to repay nearly $730,000 in welfare money that was allegedly misspent on projects endorsed by Favre.

The funds, intended for the state’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, were directed towards a volleyball arena at the University of Southern Mississippi, where Favre’s daughter was involved in the volleyball team.

White’s attorneys wrote, “Favre had no legal right to the possession or control of this $1.1 Million.”

While Favre repaid $1.1 million, including interest, White claims that Favre still owes $729,790.

Shad White said, “It boggles the mind that Mr. Favre could imagine he is entitled to the equivalent of an interest-free loan of $1.1 million in taxpayer money, especially money intended for the benefit of the poor.”

This legal dispute is part of a broader investigation into misspending of federal welfare dollars in Mississippi, with Favre being accused of involvement in projects improperly supported by the funds.

Favre’s defamation lawsuit against White is ongoing, and no criminal charges have been brought against him in relation to the misspending.
