British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his shock and sadness at the news of King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis, stating that it was caught early.
The Prime Minister extended well wishes for the King’s treatment and recovery, emphasizing that the King will be in their thoughts and prayers.
“Thankfully, this has been caught early and now everyone will be wishing him that he gets the treatment that that he needs and makes a full recovery,” Sunak said.
“He’ll just be in our thoughts and our prayers,” he said. “Many families around the country listening to this will have been touched by the same thing, and they know what it means to everyone. So we’ll just be willing him on, and hopefully, we get through this as quickly as possible.”
The diagnosis was revealed by Buckingham Palace, which also mentioned that the King has begun regular treatments and will temporarily postpone public duties.
Despite this, he will continue to fulfill his responsibilities as head of state.
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” Buckingham Palace stated.
King Charles III ascended to the throne in 2022 after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, having been the heir apparent for over seven decades.
