Florida’s attorney general is expected to ask the state Supreme Court to keep an abortion-rights measure off November’s ballot, arguing that it misleads voters and could expand abortion rights in the future.
Proponents of the measure claim the language is clear and that the attorney general is playing politics.
The case will test whether the court, appointed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, has changed direction on abortion restrictions.
The proposed amendment would allow abortions until the fetus is viable, but the attorney general argues that the language is deceptive and could open up legal questions in the future.
The Florida Supreme Court is also expected to rule on a 15-week abortion ban, with implications for abortion access in other states.
