Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie expressed openness to a potential third-party presidential bid, emphasizing the need to see a viable path to 270 electoral votes.
While not ruling out the possibility, Christie mentioned the potential for a No Labels candidate, a group considering a bipartisan “unity” ticket to oppose both Trump and Biden.
Christie said, “I don’t know who the full field’s going to be yet.”
“And there might be a No Labels candidate,” he continued.
“Well, what I’ve said in the past is that I’d have to see a path for anybody — not just me — but I think anybody who would accept that would need to see a path to 270 electoral votes,” he explained.
“If there was ever a time in our lifetime when a third-party candidate could make a difference, I think it’s now,” said Christie.
Despite not being approached by the group, Christie did not dismiss the idea of accepting such an offer.
This comes after former President Donald Trump criticized Christie’s fitness for a presidential run, citing “Trump Derangement Syndrome” in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump previously wrote, “Sloppy Chris Christie is not fit to run for President. He is suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
