Russian President Vladimir Putin has been interviewed by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, marking Putin’s first interview with a Western media figure since the Ukraine invasion.
Carlson’s video from Moscow announced the forthcoming interview, with the footage to be posted on Thursday.
Putin’s limited contact with international media since the invasion has been influenced by Russian crackdowns on media and foreign reporters.
CNN’s Christiane Amanpour asked, “Does Tucker really think we journalists haven’t been trying to interview President Putin every day since his full scale invasion of Ukraine?”
“It’s absurd — we’ll continue to ask for an interview, just as we have for years now,” she continued.
Putin’s spokesperson cited Carlson’s differing position from other English-language media as the reason for the interview.
Carlson’s trip aligns with his stance on the Ukraine war and his new streaming service.
The interview will be distributed for free on Carlson’s website and X.
The visit has drawn attention as Carlson has aligned himself with former President Trump and has been critical of U.S. aid to Ukraine.
Russian state media has extensively covered Carlson’s visit, emphasizing the potential impact of the interview on Western media narratives.
