Russia is launching 1,500 to 2,500 shells and rockets daily at Ukraine’s Donetsk region, targeting critical infrastructure to make it harder for people to stay during winter, according to the governor.
The ongoing attacks have led to the closure of the Kurakhove power plant and significant destruction in the town of Avdiivka.
The assault has caused a drastic reduction in the town’s population, with local authorities urging the remaining residents to evacuate for their safety.
The governor, who has been involved in evacuation efforts, highlighted the intensity of the ongoing shelling and the challenges faced in providing assistance due to the relentless attacks.
“The enemy shells (the region) from 1,500 to 2,500 times a day,” Gov. Vadym Filashkin said.
“The enemy’s shelling is this dense, this heavy, almost every day.”
“The enemy is trying to destroy critical infrastructure objects so that people find it difficult to remain in the region in winter,” Filashkin said.
“The enemy dropped about 200 guided aerial bombs on Avdiivka alone over the (last month). They are totally destroying it,” he said.
