A San Francisco-area elementary school, Glassbrook Elementary, experienced a significant decline in student achievement following the implementation of a “woke” teaching policy facilitated by a federal grant to Woke Kindergarten, a company training teachers to address issues like white supremacy and racism.
Test scores in English and math dropped, with only 3.8% proficient in math and 11.6% at grade level in English for the 2022-23 school year.
The program faced criticism from some teachers, including confusion and rigidity in the training sessions.
While the school district defended the program, emphasizing improvements in attendance and suspension rates, the effectiveness of the program has been questioned in light of the academic decline.
