Reps. Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman, members of the progressive Squad, face fundraising challenges as primary threats loom.
Bush, under investigation for campaign cash use, was narrowly outraised by her challenger, while Bowman, who pulled a fire alarm, faces a well-funded opponent.
Both lost key endorsements, but remain formidable.
“Missouri’s 1st District deserves a representative who shows up, does the work and gets things done,” attorney Wesley Bell stated. “I’m honored by our fast-growing list of endorsements from community members and local officials, and energized by the incredible momentum of support driving our campaign.”
“There is a fundamental weakness to Latimer’s fundraising,” spokesperson Bill Neidhardt said. “His connection to Republican Trump mega donors.”
“His money won’t go as far in a Democratic primary where the electorate wants to hold Donald Trump accountable,” Neidhardt added.
Their potential defeat could signify a shift towards the center of the Democratic Party in Congress, which some view as beneficial.
“It’s a very small group to begin with,” Democratic pollster Mark Mellman said. “It would be good for the party and good for the country if it got smaller.”
Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, other Squad members, continue to receive donations.
