Country music icon Toby Keith passed away at 62 after battling stomach cancer, which he publicly disclosed in June 2022.

Despite his health struggles, he received the Country Icon Award at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards and delivered a moving performance.

Keith expressed gratitude to his family, team, and fans, emphasizing the support he received.

“I bet you never thought y’all’d see me in skinny jeans.” Keith joked.

“I want to thank the Almighty for allowing me to be here tonight, he’s been riding shotgun with me for a little while now.”

“Most of all, I want to thank the fans for still allowing us to do what we do,” he said. “Have a wonderful evening, thank you!”

He also mentioned feeling “pretty good” despite the ups and downs of his illness. His family announced his peaceful passing on February 5, asking for privacy.

“He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time,” the family wrote.

Keith had previously announced plans to headline shows in Las Vegas, marking a return to performing after his diagnosis, expressing determination to overcome his health challenges and continue his music career.
