U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel to discuss a proposed deal where Hamas would release 136 Israeli hostages in exchange for a long-term ceasefire in Gaza.
This visit marks Blinken’s sixth since the conflict began with a Hamas attack in October.
Reports suggest that Hamas wants a permanent end to the war as part of any hostage deal, while the Biden administration sees a ceasefire as a step towards broader peace agreements involving Saudi-Israeli relations and a Palestinian state.
Together with our partners in Qatar and Egypt we've put forth a serious proposal aimed at not just repeating, but expanding the previous pause in fighting to achieve the release of the remaining hostages and surge humanitarian relief to Gaza. pic.twitter.com/rp11i57XOj
