Tesla has agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by California counties over hazardous waste violations at its factories in the state.
The violations involved mishandling hazardous waste such as paint and used batteries.

“While electric vehicles may benefit the environment, the manufacturing and servicing of these vehicles still generates many harmful waste streams,” San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said.
The settlement includes a $1.3 million civil penalty, $200,000 to cover investigation costs, and commitments to handle waste properly and undergo independent auditing.
Musk has expressed support for carbon taxes, sparking disagreement among some conservatives.
