Rapper Killer Mike, real name Michael Render, was arrested for misdemeanor battery at the Grammy Awards after a physical altercation with a security officer.
He was taken into custody but was expected to be released. Render had just won three awards at the Grammys’ Premiere Ceremony.
He reflected on his past and expressed remorse for his actions.
Killer Mike said, “At 20 years old, I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer.”
“At 40, I started to live with the regrets and the things I’ve done. At 45, I started to rap about it. At 48, I stand here as a man full of empathy and sympathy for the things I’ve done,” he continued.
The Grammy-winner is known for hosting a documentary series and making a plea to calm a protest against police brutality.
He was released on his own recognizance and is expected back in court on Feb. 29.
