New York Governor Kathy Hochul has approved a controversial proposal making it easier for illegal immigrants to secure government jobs in the state.

While migrants would need federal work authorization, the proposal relaxes English proficiency and education verification requirements for thousands of government positions.

Gov. Hochul said, “Now we have all these people who want to be here; I have all these jobs that are open.”

“You marry the two together, and you’ve solved the problems,” she continued.

Critics argue that this move could exacerbate the migrant crisis and prioritize migrants over legal residents, especially as New York has seen a significant influx of migrants in recent years.

This initiative follows previous efforts to integrate migrants into the workforce, but it comes at a time when New York faces high unemployment rates and homelessness.

Mayor Eric Adams’ plan to distribute prepaid credit cards to illegal immigrant families has also faced criticism, with taxpayers funding the $53 million program.
