Former President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, cautioned E. Jean Carroll against extravagant purchases after the defamation case.
Habba criticized Carroll’s remarks about buying a penthouse apartment and other items, suggesting that the case’s one-sidedness would be addressed on appeal.
Carroll’s comments during media appearances, including offering to buy items with the awarded money, drew criticism and led to doubts about her credibility.
If you needed any more proof this whole suit and verdict was a crock, here it is.
And of course, Maddow still soaks it all up while not realizing how damaging this is. https://t.co/jrXBrP2XN0

“It was like being in an epic Twilight Zone where no rules were allowed but for the other side, and then she goes out there and gloats and says she’s gonna buy France, and a wardrobe, and a motorcycle, and this and that,” Habba said.
“I want everyone to remember, and I said this in my closing argument to the jury, she’s here to get a check and after this she will continue. She didn’t care, you know, about the defamation. She didn’t. She cared about the publicity.”
“On appeal, those rulings will come up, the one-sidedness will come up, and we will prevail,” Habba said, adding, “My advice to her would be not to go ahead and purchase any motorcycles or penthouse apartments.”
The defamation lawsuit stemmed from Trump’s denial of Carroll’s rape allegations, resulting in a $83.3 million verdict in her favor.
“Yes, Rachel! Yes!” Carroll said to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. “I had such, such great ideas for all the good I’m gonna do with this money.”
“First thing, Rachel, you and I are gonna go shopping!” she said. “We’re gonna get complete new wardrobes, new shoes, motorcycle for [Carroll’s attorney Shawn] Crowley, a new fishing rod for Robbie [Carroll’s attorney Roberta Kaplan] — Rachel, what do you want? A penthouse? It’s yours, Rachel! Penthouse and France? You want France? You want to go fishing in France? No?”
“That’s a joke,” Carroll’s attorney said.
“If you needed any more proof this whole suit and verdict was a crock, here it is. And of course, Maddow still soaks it all up while not realizing how damaging this is,” Fox News’ Joe Concha said.
“Rough night for MSNBC,” Outkick’s Clay Travis said.
“This shows exactly what’s wrong with the justice system. You’re claiming the harm to your reputation was so bad you need millions to compensate for it, then you make these types of jokes. This also paints real assault survivors in bad lights and makes them seem money hungry. Absolutely disgusting,” Independent Women’s Forum spokesperson Paula Scanlan said.
“Being in Law Enforcement and public safety for over 3 decades having worked special victims cases, this is not the mindset of a victim. No amount of money can ever make whole a true victim of sexual assault nonetheless make them giddy,” radio host Rob O’Donnell said.
“Deranged. Maddow served it up on a silver platter for E. Jean Carroll and she decided to be unhinged in her response,” conservative commentator Steve Guest said.
Carroll later clarified her remarks, emphasizing her intention to use the money for meaningful purposes.
“We talk about it a lot. We will do good with that money. We are going to do — Trump has suggested we turn Trump Tower into an animal sanctuary, for instance. That was a joke. That was a joke,” Carroll said. “But no, we are inspired to not waste a penny over this, and we have some good ideas we are working on.”
