During a discussion on “The Five,” Greg Gutfeld sparked a heated exchange with liberal co-host Jessica Tarlov regarding former President Donald Trump’s settled case with E. Jean Carroll.
The conversation centered on the judge’s decision to fine Trump $83.3 million for defamatory statements made against Carroll.
Tarlov emphasized the importance of not defaming individuals, while Gutfeld and Judge Jeanine Pirro highlighted that a civil finding does not equate to a guilty verdict.
“Let’s talk about that [Trump] lawsuit then. Go ahead Jessica, what are your thoughts?” Gutfeld asked.
“My thoughts are that you shouldn’t sexually assault people and then you shouldn’t defame them,” Tarlov said.
Both Gutfeld and co-host Judge Jeanine Pirro noted that a civil finding doesn’t inherently mean a guilty verdict.
“Yes, he was! He was by a jury,” Tarlov said. “Oh it’s a civil, that means it doesn’t count?”
“It’s always nice to bring something up that has nothing to do with the topic,” Gutfeld joked.
“It does! He said the campaign strategy…” Tarlov began.
“Stop interrupting everybody,” Jesse Watters cut in.
The conversation also touched on Trump’s portrayal of the verdict as part of a “witch hunt,” as well as his handling of women, including a criminal case regarding alleged business record obscuring.
Defenders of Trump, such as Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, have pushed back by referencing allegations against President Joe Biden.
