The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) canceled a drag queen story time session for children after facing opposition from locals, Christian groups, and lawmakers who questioned its appropriateness for young children.

The event was intended to lead into the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras week of events in Sydney.

The ABC condemned the “hateful and offensive response” and is exploring options to host the event safely.

Critics expressed concerns about gender indoctrination and the sexualized nature of the event, with some questioning the ABC’s role in organizing such controversial events.

The ABC, as the official host broadcaster for the 2024 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, aims to reflect the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community, aligning with its Charter obligation to represent all Australians.
