A police dog named Biza, working with the Auburn Police Department in Massachusetts, successfully tracked down a missing 12-year-old in freezing temperatures after the child had left home.

The K9 unit, led by Officer David Ljunggren and Biza, located the child after a two-mile track, leading officers to the area where the child had been present.

The child was safely reunited with family, and the police credited K9 Biza with the successful rescue.

“K9 Biza tracked for a length of over two miles and led Officers to an area where evidence showed that the child had been present a short time earlier,” the department stated. “Officers converged on this area and located the child a short time later.”

The department highlighted the crucial role of K9 units in locating missing individuals, emphasizing that these dogs are often used to find missing children, the elderly, or those with disabilities.

“We are proud of the hard work put in by K9 Biza and are happy to report a positive outcome!” they stated.

“Most importantly, K9’s are oftentimes used to locate missing children, missing elderly persons, or persons with disabilities who have [wandered] off,” they said.

“The media likes to portray Police K9s as ‘attack dogs,’ but in reality, an apprehension where a K9 bites a suspect occurs less often than people realize.”
