New Mexico State’s coach apologized for Carpenter’s actions, expressing surprise at his behavior.
New Mexico State head coach Jason Hooten said Carpenter’s behavior was “not acceptable.”

Carpenter will not play in the next game, and Conference USA is expected to get involved.
Carpenter, who previously played for Mississippi Valley State, has started 16 of NMSU’s 22 games this season.
