Brent Sikkema, a prominent Manhattan art dealer, was found murdered in his Rio de Janeiro home.
The murder suspect, Alejandro Triana Prevez, had worked as a bodyguard for Sikkema and his husband.
A former client said, “He was a kind soul, but I had no idea about his lifestyle.”

“He never spoke about his husband,” they added.
In 2016, Sikkema joked, “When Luc was born, California birth certificates couldn’t recognize two fathers so I became his mother.”

Daniel Garcia Carrera Sikkema, Brent’s husband, said, “I have a son and it makes me extremely happy to watch him grow in what I consider the best country in the world, but what’s most important is that we are far away from the communist doctrine that I was forced to adopt and adore since I had use of my reason.”

Muniz, an artist said, “I have spent more than 30 years of my life trying to pointlessly emulate his juggling of fearlessness, kindness, and sophistication.”
“Brent coated his flaws with humor with the same grace he hid his immense talent behind humbleness — someone whose ultimate goal was a type of humanity that could survive any imaginable context. I am shattered, shocked, and broken by his unjustifiable tragic demise,” they continued.
Sikkema’s personal life included a secret marriage to a male escort, ongoing divorce proceedings, and a bitter custody battle over their son.
The suspect allegedly surveilled the property before stabbing Sikkema to death and stealing cash.
