European Union leaders have agreed to extend 50 billion euros in new aid to Ukraine, overcoming resistance from Hungary.
The aid is seen as crucial for Ukraine’s economic and financial stability amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The agreement was reached after weeks of wrangling, with Hungary lifting its block in exchange for certain considerations.
“We have a deal. Unity,” European Council President Charles Michel wrote on X.
“All 27 leaders agreed on an additional 50-billion-euro support package for Ukraine within the EU budget.”
The leaders also discussed military aid for Kyiv, with some uncertainty over the future of a military aid fund.
The decision comes amidst uncertainty over U.S. aid to Ukraine and tensions between Hungary and the EU.
