House Speaker Mike Johnson criticized the Senate’s bipartisan $118 billion border security and foreign aid package, calling it “even worse than we expected” and declaring it “dead on arrival” in the House.

The legislation allocates funds for border security and foreign aid, including $60 billion for Ukraine and $14.1 billion for Israel.

Speaker Johnson posted, “I’ve seen enough. This bill is even worse than we expected, and won’t come close to ending the border catastrophe the President has created. As the lead Democrat negotiator proclaimed: Under this legislation, ‘the border never closes.'”

“If this bill reaches the House, it will be dead on arrival,” he continued.

The House Majority Leader also stated that the Senate bill would not receive a vote in the lower chamber.

He previously warned, “If rumors about the contents of the draft proposal are true, it would have been dead on arrival in the House anyway.”

Rep. Scalise said, “Let me be clear: The Senate Border Bill will NOT receive a vote in the House.”

“Here’s what the people pushing this ‘deal’ aren’t telling you: It accepts 5,000 illegal immigrants a day and gives automatic work permits to asylum recipients — a magnet for more illegal immigration,” continued the lawmaker.

Sen. James Lankford said, “I’m a little confused how it’s worse than they expected when it builds [the] border wall, expands deportation flights, expands ICE officers, border patrol officers, detention beds how it creates a faster process for deportations, clears up a lot of the long-term issues and loopholes that have existed in the asylum law and then gets us an emergency authority that stops the chaos right now on the border.”

“So I’m a little confused,” Lankford continued.

“I’ll have to get with the Speaker’s team on that and find out what part would be ‘worse than what we expected’ based on the actual text and hopefully they will all have had an opportunity to read through the text,” added the Oklahoma Republican.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer aims for a vote on the package as early as Wednesday.

Republicans have expressed skepticism and reluctance to support the bill, arguing that President Biden already has the resources to address the border situation.

Former President Trump urged GOP lawmakers not to support the border deal unless they receive comprehensive measures to address illegal immigration.

Sen. James Lankford, the lead GOP negotiator, defended the bill’s provisions, emphasizing its focus on border security and deportation.
