Due to ongoing crime in the area, the 54-year-old Denny’s restaurant on Hegenberger Road in Oakland, California, has permanently closed.
The restaurant experienced car break-ins, robberies, and violent criminal activity.
This closure is part of a broader trend, with Oakland’s only In-N-Out Burger also set to close due to similar safety concerns.
“Terrible that Oakland’s like this. This is probably the oldest business on the block, and it’s closing down. It’s sad,” customer Jeff Lee said.
In response to the crime, residents have demanded action from city officials, with one neighbor describing the situation as a “failed progressive utopia.”
Police in Oakland have advised residents to use airhorns as an alert method when facing criminal victimization.
