Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the deployment of National Guard troops to support Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s efforts to curb illegal immigration at the southern border.

DeSantis is sending up to 1,000 soldiers from the Florida National Guard and the Florida State Guard.

This marks the first time the State Guard has been deployed out of state.

“We are here to join as Floridians to say that we need to stop this invasion at our southern border once and for all,” DeSantis said.

“Biden has the authority to close this border today,” he said. “If he wanted to, he lacks the will to get the job done. He lacks the capacity to see the problem for what it is and to get the job done.”

“If the Constitution really made states powerless to defend themselves against an invasion, it wouldn’t have been ratified in the first place and Texas would have never joined the union when it did,” DeSantis wrote on X.

Over a dozen states have pledged support for Abbott’s immigration agenda amid legal battles with the Biden administration.

Abbott argued that the federal government’s failure to protect against invasion allows states to defend themselves, citing constitutional language to support his position.
