A Houthi missile test challenged a US destroyer’s close-in weapons system, marking the latest in a series of Houthi missile attacks.

The missile came within a mile of the US Navy destroyer, prompting the use of the ship’s last line of defense.

US Central Command initially reported the incident, stating that the missile was shot down with no damage or injuries.

“We’re certainly taking aggressive action against the Houthis to try to defend shipping in the Red Sea,” White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said, noting that the US was “not at war” with them.

The US has been conducting preemptive strikes against Houthi missiles, targeting their anti-ship capabilities.

These actions are in response to ongoing Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in key trade routes.
