U.S. Rep. Keith Self (R-TX) informed Fox News that the “Take Our Border Back” trucker protest is expected to draw around 700,000 vehicles, with participants from across the country.
The event aims to gather various groups, including law enforcement, military, veterans, business owners, and others, for a peaceful assembly and prayer at critical border crossings in Texas, California, and Arizona.
According to the organization’s website, organizers are calling on “all active & retired law enforcement and military, Veterans, Mama Bears, elected officials, business owners, ranchers, truckers, bikers, media and LAW ABIDING, freedom-loving Americans” to join in a “peaceful assembly and prayer.”
The protest is a response to the ongoing border security standoff between Texas and the federal government.
The congressman emphasized the demand for the Biden administration to enforce existing laws and secure the border, drawing inspiration from similar movements in Canada and Europe.
Rep. Self said, “Well, the people that have organized this are the same people that went to California to D.C. with the truckers.”
“I understand we’re going to be joined by Canadian truckers. So these people are committed to a peaceful demonstration that we’ve had enough,” he continued.
“The American people have had enough. We’re demanding that the Biden administration do its job, enforce the laws on the books and secure our border,” explained the lawmaker.
“Eight million people during the Biden Administration? That’s more than the population of Ohio. This is the time for us to rise up as the American people and demand that our president do his job. This should be a peaceful movement of the American people joined by other nations if they want to come,” concluded Rep. Self
The protest is set to begin with gatherings in Florida and Virginia before heading to the border, with organizers emphasizing a peaceful approach to raise awareness about the border crisis.
