Elon Musk expressed concerns that the American auto industry would be severely impacted if the United States does not impose significant tariffs on China, highlighting the competitive edge of Chinese automakers.
This comes as Chinese automakers, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, have gained prominence globally.
Notably, experts have clashed over Chinese automakers’ intentions to enter the U.S. market with inexpensive vehicles, potentially utilizing existing programs to mitigate tariffs.
“The Chinese car companies are the most competitive car companies in the world,” Musk said.
“So, I think they will have significant success outside of China depending on what kind of tariffs or trade barriers are established.”
“Frankly, I think, if there are not trade barriers established, they will pretty much demolish most other companies in the world,” he said.
