Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi criticized Donald Trump’s “cognitive disorders” on a TV show, only to make the same kind of verbal mistake she was attacking Trump for.
During an appearance on MSNBC, Pelosi attempted to highlight Trump’s verbal gaffe, but then made a similar error herself.
The discussion revolved around Trump’s confusion between Pelosi and Nikki Haley, and Pelosi’s subsequent mix-up of names.
“You have been invoked in this current discussion that we’re having, I’m sorry to say,” Rachel Maddow said when introducing Pelosi, “because the former president in campaigning in New Hampshire did repeatedly try to attack you over the response to the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building.”
“We’ve heard what Nikki Haley thought about that, that confusion, that mistake by Donald Trump. But I don’t know what you thought about it, and I’m curious,” Maddow said.
“Well, let me just say, I’m not gonna spend too much time on Donald Trump’s cognitive disorders,” Pelosi said.
“But what I am gonna say … [Trump] tried to say that Nikki Haley did not allow the National Guard to come, but it was Nancy Pelosi,” she said, fumbling her words.
“It was neith … It was nobody,” Pelosi said. “It was Joe,” she corrected her self, then saying, “It was Donald Trump.”
Pelosi’s comments were all related to the handling of the Capitol security issues on January 6, 2021.
A report by House Republicans suggested that political pressures from Pelosi’s office contributed to the National Guard deployment delay, leading to chaos.
