Three American service members were killed and many were wounded in a drone strike in Jordan, attributed to Iran-backed militia groups, according to President Joe Biden.
This is the first U.S. fatalities in months of strikes against American forces across the Middle East by Iranian-backed militias during the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The U.S. is working to identify the responsible group and has vowed to hold them accountable.
President Biden claimed that he “will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner our choosing.”
The attack took place near the Syrian border, and U.S. troops in Jordan have faced injuries and fatalities.
The conflicting information about the location of the attack has not been reconciled.
The incident occurred amidst ongoing conflicts in Syria and Iraq, involving Iranian-backed forces.
