Two individuals, Marlid Susana Carballo and Arsides Gomez, have been arrested and charged after a newborn baby girl was found behind dumpsters at a Mississippi mobile home park.
The baby, around two or three weeks old, was discovered in a car seat by individuals who heard her crying.
WREG reported, “Three men were throwing away trash when they heard what they thought was a baby crying, authorities said. They found the baby in a car seat, wrapped in blankets.”
Commander of Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Kelly McMillen said, “We’re not even sure if this child is from our area. If you’re aware of anybody that’s had a child abducted or that’s been taken by force of violence, you need to contact us immediately.”
She was transported to a hospital and is in good condition, soon to be released to the Marshall County DHS.
Authorities are investigating the situation and have made arrests related to the incident.
Safe Haven laws in the U.S. provide alternatives for parents to prevent criminal abandonment of newborns, including in Mississippi.
